No, it's nothing like that. For one Rush doesn't start until after classes start, and the houses are smaller (most Sororities at UNC have 160 - 190 girls total) and the pledge classes are more like 60, not 130. To get into the top 3 - 4 houses at UNC you do need to have connections (preferably more than 1), or be really hot. If you don't have connections and are more of a plain-Jane there are plenty of good houses that will take you, and the bottom houses will take almost anyone that doesn't have an attitude problem.
