Recently I saw some posts copying my format of ranking fraternities and using it to rank sororities. I feel that was a poor decision because of how superficially we rank sororities on this campus. I will admit I did attempt to make on myself and while in that process I realized that my only real reasoning for ranking a house was based off of attractiveness. I came to the conclusion that it really is all based on looks at this school. This is not a news flash to most of us but the conclusion is profound. Most of the things I factored into making my fraternity list didn’t apply to sororities. I realized that this shallow ranking came from the fact that sororities are almost identical in the eyes of fraternities. They offer then same things: they all have the same social events, host similar philanthropies, participate in block and accept invitations to events hosted by fraternities. I cannot think of a sorority who hosts a unique and exclusive event with a fraternity. This means that any sorority can fill a social calendar date for a fraternity, leaving looks as the only factor deciding who gets invited. I challenge the sororities to find ways to offer more than just your physical attractiveness to fraternities. Find ways to win them over with your personalities and not leave it up to them to judge you solely on looks. I realize that all sororities are internally different but until someone breaks the mold nothing will change leaving us in this inadequate system.
