www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/education/bs-md-towson-university-hazing-20160406-story.html The above link is the recent article regarding the suspension of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Fraternity due to hazing. A fraternity is suspended and Towson University and Baltimore County police are investigating an alleged hazing incident that left a student hospitalized. Police and university officials declined to offer more details. Towson University spokesman Ray Feldmann said the student has been hospitalized since Thursday night. The incident was reported to have happened off campus, he said. "Towson University takes any allegation of hazing very seriously and deals with it swiftly," he said in an email. "Our hazing policy is very clear: Hazing is against the law and is strictly prohibited at Towson University." A family member of the student contacted WBAL radio and told the outlet that he had been forced to eat cat food and drink what he was told was vinegar and pickle juice. The student later vomited blood and was hospitalized with "damage to his tongue, esophagus, intestinal lining and stomach," according to WBAL. Tau Kappa Epsilon's national office is investigating the matter and temporarily suspended its chapter at Towson, spokesman Alex Baker said in an email. When a fraternity chapter is suspended, its members cannot hold events or otherwise operate as a chapter. "Tau Kappa Epsilon does not condone hazing in any form," Baker said. "These alleged actions do not align with our values of love, charity, and esteem. We have temporarily suspended the Pi-Upsilon chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon. We are fully cooperating with the university and police investigations. If these allegations are found to be true, we will address the allegation swiftly and with appropriate action." Another chapter of TKE at the University of Maryland, College Park was suspended for alleged hazing in March, according to the student newspaper. The Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life at UM wrote on its website that the chapter was suspended until 2020. That chapter was also put on probation and ordered to pay $3,500 in restitution in 2011 after a fire alarm panel was ripped out of a wall, according to documents obtained by The Sun.
