I'm an alumna who was told about this page from an active and I was appalled. I'm not saying there aren't tiers at SMU; there definitely are. On Bid Day, I got my second choice sorority. I bawled so long that I missed most of the Bid Day activities. I ended up LOVING it, served on exec for two years, got involved with recruitment, and ended up being nominated homecoming queen for my sorority. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't get a bid from my favorite house. They're great girls, but I fit in with my sisters much better than I would have fit in anywhere else. If you fit in with a high tier sorority, great. If you fit in with a middle tier sorority, great. And if you fit in with a lower tier sorority, that's great, too. It doesn't make you any better or worse. What matters is finding a place you can call home. Tiers don't really make any difference on your SMU experience. I had a GREAT experience on campus, and I don't think any top-tier or lower-tier girls would say differently. I'm sure they'd say the same as me: my sorority was the best thing that ever happened to me. You're only in college for four years. You're in a sorority for LIFE. Tiers don't matter after you graduate! All eight of SMU's sororities have AMAZING Dallas alumnae chapters. And let's face it, all of SMU's sororities are pretty great. Share some Panhellenic love and stop caring whether or not your sorority is the most popular on campus. If you stop caring (whatever tier you are), you'll be much happier.
