June Jones should have resigned after the ASU fiasco. DEFINITELY at the end of last year when it was OBVIOUS that this year was going to be a disaster thanks to his lousy recruiting. For $2 million/year, I would expect ANY coach to know the local high school coaches of the big-time programs (DeSoto, Euless Trinity, Allen, etc.) intimately. The coaches for these schools as well as almost EVERY other school in the metroplex stated that they have never MET June or any of his assistants. Just pathetic. We have had many top recruits, whom we offered, say that they never spoke with an SMU coach and committed elsewhere because we didn’t show them we were interested even though we had offered. Hope we can get a top recruiter who can also coach. It will take time to turn this thing but a coach who can recruit the local area as well as Houston and east Texas could make this program competitive, which it is not right now. Larry Brown is a great example of how it is done. Can’t WAIT for basketball! Sorry this was long but a lot of people think that June walked on water. As I mentioned, the decline immediately happened when his attempt to jump to ASU blew up in his face. He got rid of Klemm, his top recruiter, and Reinbold, his second best recruiter and never replaced them with anyone who had a clue or a care about going after the top recruits. He and his assistants have been milking this job ever since.
