The problem with the Greek system is that in the US from 18-21 you are adult-ish. You are on your own to make your own decisions, but most of you don’t have a network of discerning adults to advise you through really difficult choices and you aren’t working to make your own money because you are in school. You are adult-ing. You have power and control without it really being what you built. The Greek system is designed to have adult oversight to help guide you to keep you safe and moving in the right direction. We want you to have fun like we did and learn to be your own person to go on to be a value add to the world. However, as the laws are written, no sane adult wants the legal responsibility of being deeply involved in quite frankly your sometimes illegal entertainment. (Drinking, and whatever else y’all get yourselves into.) It is too much liability on the people trying to help you figure out who you are and how you want to handle various decisions. Your advisors should be given legal amnesty except for reporting harm to self and others.
