While ZTA does have a solid reputation in the state of Texas, I am not surprised at all that they chose not to re-colonize at SMU. Looking at their current collegiate chapter listing nationwide, ZTA really has not been very active in starting (or re-starting) new chapters. Plus many of there chapters are smaller, less well known schools. It takes a ton of cash, a very experienced extension team, many trained volunteers and nationals staff, solid local alumnae support, plus loads of guts (courage, confidence, bravado, plus a touch of insanity) to accept an invitation, present, accept, and colonize a chapter. Plus time…lots of time…hours and hours, months and months, 1-2 years. So much work goes into it before a group ever steps on campus. I heard that one of the Panhellenic houses (not sure if PH1 or PH2) has asbestos, but either one (old ADPi House or old ZTA House) will require mucho bucks to bring to code, remodel for 2023 living, and redecorate—-all the be competitive with other groups on campus. In a way I would like both group to colonize to really shake things up. We shall see. It will be a fascinating year between now and next fall to see what unfolds.
