You will never know if you don't try it. The disadvantage is that you haven't been here for a semester to get to know actives in houses like others have been. Sororities would choose someone they have gotten to know over a stranger if it comes down to it. Also you probably don't have recommendations in yet, which is another way for you to get on chapters' radar. So unless you can get some recs in, no one is going to have a clue that you even exist before you walk in the door. That is a good way to fall through the cracks. But you might blow some houses away if you have what they are looking for. Keep an open mind and an open heart and see what happens.
