Nationals - Requires girls to go through National  Panhellenic Recruitment where you are required to rush all four national sororities. National  Panhellenic Recruitment only occurs in the Spring. Have a quota for pledge class sizes, typically 40, making the sororities extremely large and “generally” less close than locals. People will argue many girls only get bids due to quota. National community service hours are required, all have national philanthropies. More expensive than most locals due to national dues. Girls tend to join national sororities for perks such as expansive national alumni networks and name recognition. Do not haze as much due to national advisors keeping up with their chapters. Have “dry” (sober) rush in which the sorority can not bring out rushes to parties during Panhellenic Recruitment. Locals - When rushing locals the rushes get to pick which sororities to rush. Rush occurs Fall and Spring. Have no quotas for pledge class sizes and all locals vary in size form very small to very large. Are considered to be closer because when getting a bid from local it is more rare due to no quota, showing that the girls truly want you. Philanthropy is generally less important, less hours due, no national philanthropy, most organizations have their own local charity organizations. Locals tend to be cheaper due to no national dues but this can vary. Most hazing occurs within locals due to less regulation and school involvement. Rush is different per sorority.
