Hi! So since a new semester is approaching, I thought I'd give some advice for girls who are interested in rushing, since I myself just rushed and pledged last semester. :) So, first of all, if you're an incoming student, you can't rush your first semester at Genny. Meaning you'll have to wait until spring to rush. The plus side to this is that the national sororities only have recruitment in the spring, so you won't be missing out! There are currently 4 national sororities, and (I believe, off the top of my head) 8 local sororities at Geneseo. You'll have to go to Round Robin before you rush anyway, so I won't bother going over each individual sorority. I'm in a national sorority, but my general advice applies to anybody rushing any organization. DO NOT GO INTO RUSH WITH PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS. Meaning, there are many rumors and "rankings" of the sororities, but most of it is bs. The most important thing to remember during rush is to go in with an open mind, and make your own decisions first hand. The "tier system" at Geneseo isn't really a thing. Everyone just joins the right sorority/frat for them. Don't freak out if your favorite sorority cuts you!! I was cut from my "favorite" sorority right before the final round of rush, and I was crushed. I ended up getting a bid to my second favorite, and now I'm happier than I ever could have imagined. Keep going and trust the system. You'll end up where you belong. Trust me. Have fun and good luck finding your sisters!!
