For higher tier frats that tends to be the theme unfortunately, but if you go to the right opens (which again some top frats won’t even throw, but some do), and make a good impression you may be invited to rush. Honestly I don’t know why why more frats don’t look to rush externally bc if you don’t it creates a smaller rush pool of kids who may just be legacies or just not that cool. A lot of mid tier frats have been getting better rush classes by the semester through these opens, and as a result have becoming more popular on campus. Regardless of this, Rush is technically open to everyone as long as you can figure out when and where it is, so my advice would just be to talk to kids in your dorms and classes who are looking to rush/ are already in frats, as well as going to opens downtown to get a feel for them. As far as getting in, everyone who rushes should be on equal footing (maybe except legacies, but it is what it is), if you make a good impression and vibe with the guys well you’ll be fine. Hope this helped.
