I was just looking at recent posts on this website and I noticed a trend that seems pretty messed up. Basically people act as if athletes are somehow different from everyone else at Yale, and that they're somehow less "cool." For example, the term "NARP" has been used lately (non-athletic regular people). Seriously? Athletes aren't "regular people?" Pi Phi, Zeta, DKE, ADPhi, and Sig Nu all draw heavily from sports teams during rush. That's what makes them the way they are, and honestly that's a really good thing because it means the people in it are already friends and have strong bonds. Why is that considered less cool than the "rich students" of Alpha Phi, Theta, Leo, and SigEp? It's honestly really elitist. At other schools athletes are lauded. I know this probably isn't the right place to have this discussion, someone should write a YDN op-ed about it in my opinion, but I just wanted to talk about it because it seems pretty mean.
