it costs a lot to be in a frat or sorority. there's ~$100 dues, plus paying for shirts, you're expected to contribute to philanthropy and expected to pay up for other frats/sororities' philanthropy events. then there's money you need to put in for alcohol. then when you get a little you have to spend a ton of money on your little. it's very expensive, but if you have to pay it yourself, it's doable if you have a part-time job. many of my friends pay their dues themselves with money they make working part time, but they are also all in a position where their parents pay for everything except their sorority expenses.
