Rankings aside...this is coming from a geed who has friends in almost every greek org, don’t rush phi mu. Those 6 weeks for new members seemed so miserable from an outsiders perspective. I saw the kindest girls become so irritable and distraught during that time. No other sorority hazes as much or in the same way phi mu does. The personal degradation, screaming, and abuse in no way seems worth it, or on par with the more-or-less harmless initiation rituals of other sororities. Say what you want about them being top/middle tier, but I believe at that point having the “prestigious” name is not even worth it. I don’t just want to tear them down though. I’ve met some of the sweetest girls in the org so I know they can be better, but they have rightfully earned the reputation of being the mean girls on campus. I also don’t think it’s “just a handful” of phi my girls coming on this to bash delta. Pretty certain it is older/influential girls in the org trying to instill that rhetoric in the younger girls. A phi mu I know who used to LOVE delta admitted reaching out to girls coming to Elon next year to tell them how horrible they (and “everyone on campus”) think delta is!! I’m sure that’s not something she would have done without encouragement or reaaallly fearing for their social status. I’ll charge for this advice next time, but this year phi mu should focus on repairing their reputation of being mean girls/hazing/status chasers by focusing on genuine sisterhood and learning how to directly address their issues. Obviously this doesn’t apply to all girls in the org, but there is clearly a systematic problem that’s going to get them in trouble soon if they don’t fix it.
