Move-in day is hectic and you are inundated with everything Elon. In hindsight it is a giant marketing effort and feels like a facade created to comfort parents and the lesser crybaby "first years." The newspaper pitches the overpriced meal plan which you will hate after a year. They have orientation groups in all the dorm areas trying to create an image that you're not getting a raw deal. You get a lot more for your money off-campus. The campus is beautiful, but what does that mean in the long run? The Elon bubble is great for getting to know other students, but bad for doing things. Some of us do not care about the history of acorns and just want a variety of quality places to eat. Where's the diversity of students? Maybe that's why so many study abroad their sophomore year. I could be jaded, but I feel like it is more taking advantage and less facilitating the transition. It is the business of education. Any thoughts? Am I being too pessimistic or real?
