So a common misconception is that you're eligible for all sororities as long as you have a 2.5 and are allowed to rush, but that's not actually the case. Different sororities have different national standards regarding their individual GPA requirements, and those are sometimes more strict than WashU's requirements. There are several chapters that require new members to have a minimum of a 2.8. (and actually I think I've heard that there is one chapter that requires a 3.0 but don't quote me on that) If you don't meet that minimum you'll probably be cut after the first or second round of recruitment. I can speak for my chapter and a couple others that I have friends in, and I would assume that this is pretty much the standard procedure but someone can correct me if their chapter does it differently. When regular chapter members are voting on you, they won't be aware of your GPA, so you don't have to worry about your grades being publicly broadcasted. The GPA-related cuts will be handled privately by the recruitment team and the computer algorithm that establishes the rankings on their PNM list. Rush at WashU isn't very competitive, so GPA is not as important here as it would be at a bigger school. As long as you meet a chapter's minimum cutoff, your grades won't matter much after that. It might be used as a tiebreaker if anything. If you're given the same score as another PNM who has a much higher GPA than you, she will probably end up higher on the chapter's invite list than you.
