Panhellenic’s goal is to keep all of the houses alive. The problem is even though most of the girls rushing go into it with an open mind, once they meet all the houses a lot of the girls they don’t see themselves fitting in with bottom tier houses. Then when these girls only get bids from lower tier houses because Panhellenic is limiting all of the houses to small quotas, then a lot of these girls drop. So now the sorority system, which has seen overall numbers plummet in recent years, is losing these girls, when I’m fact all of the sororities they want to be in have plenty of room, but Panhellenic won’t let them sign any more than their mandated quota. Not a great system.
