A soroity and a fraternity are considered brother-sister houses if the sorority was founded by the brother fraternity. So kappas brother house is sigma chi because they were founded by the men of sigma chi. So they're technically a sorority. If a soroity was founded by women, then it's considered a fraternity. I'm not sure about theta/figi or pi phi/beta but I know sigma chi and kappas are brother sister houses.
