During FFR, specifically mention your interests and intended area of study. If you say "I'm interested in Nursing or Business, or Comm" then members can target their recruitment efforts, including introducing you to members that share your interests. That helps you get to know who is actually in the house and whether it might be a good fit for you and your interests. The number of members pursuing your major isn't the only thing to go off of, but it's definitely helpful to have older people in your major around the house as you find your way through the UW. Going off of GPA ranking does not tell you much... houses with many members in highly competitive majors have lower GPAs than those with a lot of members going for less-rigorous degrees. Not saying Sociology is "easier" than a STEM major because it depends upon the person, but GPAs are higher. A house could offer a lot of academic support and have many smart, accomplished members and not be near the top of panhel GPA.
