Get a Rec!

for every house. It's a way to be introduced and shows them that you cared enough to put in the effort. Most chapters have some sort of system for sorting PMNs into categories to help them manage the numbers (legacies, people they know, rec girls they don't know but want to meet, etc). The rec may tell them that you are really strong at something they are looking for- maybe they need an actress, or a singer, or some good athletes, and they want to know those things about you. You want to be on their list and a rec can help you get there! Also, some chapters are required by the system to cut more heavily in the early rounds and unless you know a lot of girls, lacking a rec makes you an easy early cut for those top recruiting groups. Many chapters also have national requirements to have a rec for every girl they pledge, anyway, so you need to get one to make that part easy on them. Ask your teachers, your mom's friends, people you babysit for, etc. If they were greek they are used to being asked and will not think it is weird to write a rec for you. And write those thank you notes- its polite and if they haven't done the rec, it will remind them to send it!
