The dues go toward National fees, chapter operating costs, social functions, and national scholarship funds for the chapter. New members should expect to pay higher dues their first semester due to initiation fees. There may be additional cost throughout the year for event photos, extra t-shirts, and other fees. After the first semester, however, expect dues to drop significantly.Don't hesitate to ask during recruitment the prices per semester. My biggest concern joining a sorority on campus was the cost. I was terrified of spending what I had saved up over summer before college and had awful preconceptions while walking into some houses that, it didn't matter if I liked them, I absolutely couldn't join because of the cost. I ended up joining anyway because I adored the women and I alone pay for my dues (as do many Panhellenic women). I found it easy to set aside money each month and definitely ask about each sororities payment plans. Some offer paying in full, yearly, or monthly! Hope this helped! :)
