Subject:
Rush Advice from Fourth Year

Poster Message:
Hey kiddos, I haven't been on this site since first year rush but decided to come back on to share some sage advice. People that say rankings don't matter are right, up to a point. When you see different tier rankings this usually (not always) just correlates to what different sororities the houses mix with. So when your looking at X, Y and Z houses if they're within the same tier or two it probably just means they mix with similar/the same sororities, so picking X over Y simply because its ranked two houses above the other one is dumb. On top of that, I can guarantee you there is chill kids and not so chill kids in every house, so don't think that getting a "top house" bid means you'll be in a PC of kids you'll automatically like, and vice versa. The cool and kind of unique thing about UVA Greek life is that kids typically befriend and often hang out with kids in houses outside of their own, so at the end of the day choosing a house just because you want to go party there is pretty dumb especially if you have other friends rushing there who can eventually just invite you. I know I said rankings matter up to a point, but like I mentioned these rankings typically just correlate with the sororities on your party list/that you mix with, and truthfully just like with frats, there are attractive and intelligent and charismatic girls in every sorority here. Going to a "mid" fraternity doesn't mean you'll have drastically worse parties than a "top" house, it just means you'll be partying and having a good time with a different group of kids. At the end of the day, although it sounds cliché, if you want to have the best Greek life experience you can pick the house that you enjoyed spending the most time at and where you think you'll fit in the best. Your time here will fly by, so make the most of it and don't be afraid to meet as many people as you can, this school truly is full of some of the most interesting and talented people I have ever met.
