There is an upperclassmen quota, but quota doesn't mean what people are saying it means on this thread. It does mean that upperclassmen have their own quota separate from the freshmen quota so that they don't have to compete with freshmen for bids. That is an advantage, but no sorority HAS to take anyone, including a certain number of sophomores; that's not how it works. Quota is the maximum number of bids that sororities are limited to give out and is not determined until after prefs; it is never predetermined. The total number of upperclassmen signing cards after prefs divided by the number of sororities will equal upperclassmen quota. Same formula for freshmen, but upperclassmen quota is smaller because there are far fewer second years plus going through. Remember that if you make it to pref and put both houses on your card, or just the one if that's all you were invited to, then you are guaranteed a bid even if it puts a house over quota (called quota plus.) But if you attend two prefs and rank only one house then you might not get a bid. So just understand that there is no minimum requirement for sororities to take second years; cuts can and will be made, but you are not competing with freshmen for spots in the new class. Bring your best to every house every day and you will have as good a chance as anyone. Most pnm's get bids and the ones who don't are 99% because they dropped out by choice.
