Expansion Part 2

Poster Message:
A new sorority comes onto a campus by getting local reps in place to form a colony, usually very young alumni from nearby schools. They start by participating in the first day only of formal recruitment, making presentations to pnm's. Then they drop out of the picture until formal is over and then start having informal events and interviews. Interviews are key because these reps are choosing the leaders of their new chapter. Not every girl will be invited to form the colony. They have to be selective and not go for numbers at first. The process goes on for several weeks until they have their group together and then do some kind of combination pref/bidding ceremony. Then they have their colony. This class goes through new member training for several weeks, the colony leadership is selected, the new members are initiated, and voila, there is a new chapter on campus. The new chapter would then participate fully in all ISC events, including formal recruitment. Next step is to secure a house, which depends heavily on regional alumnae support. A new chapter is a hell of a lot of work, requiring a very, very dedicated core group of colonizing members. If you think it's just about getting some new sorority letters slapped up and then getting the party started, you couldn't be more mistaken.
