Snap bidding is to meet the number ISC allows on bid day, AKA like 44 or 45 this year. COB is to meet quota set by nationals of the chapter. Snap bids are given out the day of bid day and are given to girls that dropped out of rush, generally girls who house toured there. Any bids that follow this semester are now COBs. If you wrote a sorority down after prefs when you ranked them and were offered a bid and did not accept, you cannot do COBs or informal, must wait 1 full year. Likewise if you accept a bid and later decide to drop Lots of sororities had to give out some snaps this year due to the new pref system. Girls preffed at only 2 places instead of 3, and thus there were also fewer girls at pref rounds. Thus if a bit more than half of the girls who preffed at your sorority put somewhere else first and got it, you had to do snap bids as you went through your entire bid list. With the larger pref rounds of years past, all of the sororities except bottom tier basically didn’t make it to the end of their bid list (aka all the girls at their prefs) and didn’t need snap bids.
