Formal recruitment gives you a shot at all the houses. It is your best bet coming in new. Informal is very, very, very limited, and you would only have contact with a few houses, if that many, but you can ask your contacts and see what happens. If you don't find your home during informal then you should certainly do formal recruitment. You would not be blacklisted. Unless you lead a certain house to believe that you wanted a bid from them and then you turned it down. That would be tricky.
