theta is certainly a mixed bag; you’ll find a ton of different personalities, interests, and backgrounds. but on the flip side i feel like that makes their sisterhood a little harder to connect the entire house. i feel like each of theta’s active pcs are all so different from one another, but that’s my opinion. connections amongst pledge classes are great from what i’ve seen, but overall collective sisterhood amongst the entire house isn’t as great. kd: suffered a big scandal this past year which led to the loss of a lot of members (and with that, money). if i remember correctly it was either pc 17 or 18 that had massive sisterhood issues but all that to say, i think they’ve made up for it with the last few pledge classes because these newer girls are genuinely kind people and seem to be strengthening the sisterhood. they host a ton of events and are very involved within the lawrence/ku community i would say. doesn’t really fit the mold of being a smart/party house, i’d say it’s more in the middle. definitely takes a more left-leaning/progressive crowd than other houses do, which wasn’t a deciding factor for me going through recruitment but something to keep in mind. kappa: massive kc crowd but has been taking more out of state girls with each pc. i feel like the general consensus of girls in this house are that they’re “one of the guys”. big connections with the frats and without a doubt the biggest party sorority on campus. most of them have pretty big egos but i’ll admit- some of the kappas in my classes are a whole lot smarter than you’d assume and get their work done. i know they had some issues filling their spots for exec this year and you’ll never find them involved on pha’s staff. definitely a good house if you’re looking more toward the social scene, but wouldn’t be my first choice from a sisterhood, philo, or involvement perspective. pi phi: similar to kappa and gphi with taking mostly kc girls who knew each other in hs. certainly doesn’t have the best reputation on campus.. i feel like within the panhellenic community, pi phi has both the meanest and nicest girls you’ll meet at ku. i feel like the sisterhood in this house isn’t the best, just because they have been recruiting primarily off of physical appearance, financial situation, and connections for so long. best advice i can give for pi phi… going through their recruitment and speaking to their members firsthand will make you realize whether or not you’re a good fit for this house on day 1. sk: i feel like i never hear about this house, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you view it. i feel like their last two pcs have been great, but still compete pretty highly with adpi/kd/ddd. big into philanthropy, and you’re not going to find a ton of party girls in this house. but i will say, these girls have big hearts and create a very inclusive, authentic, and drama-free environment which i think everyone can appreciate.
