“Top” houses are usually your stereotypical sorority girls; enjoy going out, popular with the frats, and usually it’s a competitive recruitment process. But if you’re a legacy or have “ins” to the house, it’ll help tremendously. These chapters usually also have the bigger, more renovated houses which is appealing for a lot of people. “Bottom” houses aren’t as difficult to get a bid from, and are more likely to go through informal. Their pledge classes are a lot more diverse in who they take; you’ll get a good mix of different personalities. Bottom houses aren’t so much concerned about their social status, and are usually super involved on campus outside of Greek life. They don’t always fit the mold of your average sorority girl, and that’s totally okay! Most of it is pretty subjective and superficial, but at the end of the day, all chapters have something great that they bring to the table and being in a top/middle/bottom house shouldn’t interfere with how you go about recruitment. Go with where you feel the most yourself and you’ll end up in the right place :)
