Message to girls going through rush from an alumni who has her dream job and wishes she could go back and do things different. - In the corporate world, no one cares about your sorority. People just care about if you are smart, kind, and have integrity. I am actually a bit embarrassed by it and don’t it include it in my resume INTENTIONALLY. - when they say don’t pay attention to Rank. ITS TRUE. Look at sororities that will build your character, build your friends, help you get your dream job. I found my best friends outside of Greek life and was in a top tier that I never felt loved by despite it being desired. I know many other alum who feel the same way. - the micro politics of sorority leadership is weird and embarrassing. Don’t let anyone stop you from being who you are (as long as it’s safe and genuine to you), if they do, DROP THEM. Half of them will peak in college and go down hill post grad anyway once the real world checks their egos. - this goes for catty, judgy, and ~exclusive~ behavior in general. Post grad, people will notice and it will hurt your ability professionally and towards building/maintaining long lasting friendships out of college. The mean and catty girls who intentionally were cliquey in college, are almost ALWAYS struggling/alone post grad. The girls who were not judgemental, inclusive, and kind to others now are now all super happy with great jobs and big networks. - I wish I didn’t rush based on the cute dresses, the pretty faces, and the “promises”. I also wish I joined a business fraternity. Go with your gut instinct and ask yourself, are these women seeing me for me? - Sorority dues are expensive, do NOT go in debt for them. Please, just don’t. There is so much Virginia Tech can offer outside of Greek life. Use your dues to buy stock in Tesla, pay down student loans, a journal to document your feelings idk. - whatever sorority you choose, it will always work out. It may seem as if it is the BIGGEST thing that your ideal sorority didn’t request you back or that you didn’t get your top choice. Or even you decide to drop. It WILL always work out, as long as you are doing what is right for you and staying true to you.
