SafeRide VT was implemented to give students a ride home who are out late on campus. “Security Center representatives can monitor pending, in progress, or completed rides and schedule call-in rides to be added to the automatic routing and dispatch system.” .... With regards to this free service, SafeRide was never made to be used as a tool of IFC to provide evidence of fraternal social events and what was specifically going on at these events. SafeRide drivers are being used actively, not just as a “safe ride” home, but as a lookout/witness for student conduct/IFC. A SafeRide driver has already been a primary witness in an investigation earlier in the year related to multiple fraternities and underage drinking. Essentially by doing this, IFC is corrupting and manipulating a great idea/service resulting in fraternities disliking this service. In mainstream this is a great app… but IFC is changing this outlook, at least from a fraternity wide view. This goes into a wider problem of the administration at this school, and their extreme means of punishing fraternities unfairly. In summary, IFC, you are taking a great service, that provides safety for students, and corrupting that service. IFC is partly at this school for the safety of fraternities and their guests, ... but in this process of using SafeRide drivers as witnesses, they are potentially taking a safety tool away from these fraternities and their guests.
