Ok so I am not going to sugarcoat this, but PLEASE don't be discouraged! Rush is a great experience and if you want to do it then do it and have a great time. That being said, it is more difficult to get a bid as a sophomore. Every year we are getting around 3,000 girls rushing and with only 9 houses on campus (each giving between 80-90 bids) less than a third of girls that rush will get bids. Every house will take at least a couple sophomores but that does make the competition stiffer for sophomores and above. When looking at girls to possibly bid we take a lot of things in to account! This is going to sound weird, but one of the big things we think about is girls as investments (for lack of a better word). That doesn't have as much to do with money as it does involvement. We want girls that will be active members of the house, that will contribute time! We also want girls that will want to live in the house, most sophomores do not want to live in the house junior year. So basically when we look at sophomores compared to freshmen sophomores are less likely to live in and will give the house one less year of involvement. To be totally honest, my house cut probably 85% of sophomores in the first round last year. But if you go in and just be yourself you are very likely to meet a ton of amazing people and you could very well still find an amazing house and group of sisters to call your own! Have a great time at recruitment!
