As an alum of a sorority at Cal, I cannot emphasize this enough: go with the house of people that you feel you can hangout with for tv nights, eating meals together, going to the library and studying together, and going out to parties with. The “top” houses are the ones that so many people want and often times they only want a certain type of girl, but the “middle” and “lower” houses also have so much to offer. I was reflecting back on my rush when a girl in my rush group was so rude to one of the girls at a house because that house wasn’t considered of high status which is such a shame bc they were so nice. Yes, being in a sorority is about connecting with the overall Greek community and it’s also about meeting people that will be in your life once you graduate and move away, making memories and doing fun things together that stay with you forever. Don’t try to pretend to be someone you’re not to try to fit into a house that isn’t the right fit. Be open to all the houses and let the process happen. Rush is hard and exhausting talking for so long and having surface level convos esp on the first days, but it brought me so much joy as part of my college experience and I hope you have a good experience as well.
