THIS. Alpha Phi has been doing THIS for years. There was a girl who ended up on our bid list one year (Gamma Phi). When I went to add her on facebook that night I actually noticed that the girl somehow ended up in Alpha Phi! She had somehow knew to attend their Bid Day, and everything, even though she was on our bid list. I actually went and asked our VPM about this, and she said that the girl didnt show up to Bid Day at Wheeler, and therefore didn't accept our bid. As a result, there wasn't anything we could do unless we wanted to either A.) Get Alpha Phi in trouble, or B.) We wanted that girl to lose her bid at Alpha Phi. Given Gamma Phi's position in the Greek System, we have/had no way of going up against Alpha Phi, and While I have no problem getting another house in problem for CLEAR RULE BREAKING, I didnt want to get that New Member cut/lose her bid because the chapter she joined was shady, and that girl deserved a great Panhellenic experience. Also, clearly, she thought APhi was "a better fit" than my chapter given she chose to drop out of recruitment and join APhi over Gamma Phi. My guess is this girl got a snap bid/COB bid to APhi on Bid Day. And because she dropped outta recruitment before opening her bid card and accepting her bid, she technically didnt accept two bids. What a sad story. While I'm sure it wasn't APhi's INTENTION to hurt our Chapter's new member class by taking in one of our PNM's away, the reality is, that they did. And this is only one we know of. What if there was 3-4 girls they did this with? That adds up over time, and affects how our chapter can recruit. We already have to double/triple recruit, so when other chapters do stuff like this is ACTUALLY hurts.
