It varies by house but yes it helps to have a at least one letter of reference from an alum or local Panhellenic group sent to each house to the attention of the membership recruitment team. Attach a resume that describes honors, work, volunteering, sports and other activities and interests. Also list any Greek connections in your family, and attach a current picture. This helps the chapter get an advance look at you to recognize you and to give you the very best possible rush. These days being a legacy is no guarantee of getting in to a chapter, and I doubt that any chapter at Cal will drop you if you do not have a letter of reference, but it does help. Also be aware that the chapters will look on social media for you so make sure your social media sites reflect what you want them to see about you. Just saying. Hope this helps.
