I wouldn’t put it past some of the people working at UM to break the rules (what rules?!) but discussion of someone’s HIV status can be a HIPAA violation if you are employed by school/in a medical capacity... if you hear something that might be a HIPAA violation, you really ought to report it. All you can do to safeguard is use protection/preventive medication, trust who you are sleeping with well enough, ask for test results from frequent, and get tested yourself.
