Each sorority IS double the size of every frat and I think that's an issue, but that's a national problem, not a Miami one. There are 70+ fraternities and only 26 sororities, and at pretty much every school with greek life there are less sororities then frats as the sororities tend to be much larger. Another part of the issue is the recruitment process; sororities are looked down upon for COBing so they're less inclined to recruit twice a year as they think it makes them look bad, while most frats pretty much everywhere have a spring and fall rush. I think it's because in general sorority recruitment is much more regulated than fraternity recruitment, and the girls end up going through a crappy impersonal process with all the sororities while the frats have more control over their rush events and pledge class sizes and the guys rushing can focus on frats they like. This all sucks for the girls, and I'd love to see UM open up to another sorority, but the problem isn't as easy to fix as just bringing in more sororities, as this is pretty much how greek life works on a national level, and since sororities are so much bigger and more regulated it's much harder for them to change their reputations or fit in to a certain niche.
