In simple terms: All interested independents should call the Panhellenic office. You can't rely on hearsay as to who is bidding and who is not since you don't want to miss an opportunity. Every sorority in the U.S. has given out snap bids or used Continuous Open Bidding at one time or another. This is not to be seen as an embarrassment! Each of our nationals wants us to fill open spots - as do we - so there will almost always be at least one open spot per semester. So what if you don't have a formal Bid Day? I'm assuming you'd agree that it's better to go Greek via C.O.B. or a snap bid than not at all? You'll get an extra semester in a chapter plus avoid re-rushing as a sophomore. Not that it's bad to rush your second year but take every opportunity that you can. GOOD LUCK!
