I mean this with the most genuine advice, but do not go through formal recruitment. I highly suggest maybe COB-ing after your first semester, but do not go through formal recruitment. 1) for your safety 2) for your respect. You are going to rush in a Southern SEC School where the majority of the people on this campus are conservative. You will face a lot of discrimination because of you being trans and you’re already going to meet people who might invalidate your identity. Alabama is a LOT different from Arizona culturally. Coming from a sorority girl who is very supportive of the trans community, I would wait for spring or COB recruitment where you will be able to talk to a girl one on one and potentially get a bid but even them a lot of sororities are not open to giving out bids to trans girls. I know girls that are queer, lesbian, bi, and are gender neutral in Greek Life, but they are all AFAB. I just don’t think sororities will be open to giving a bid to you or might potentially completely cut you by philanthropy. This includes sororities that extends bids to everyone like Trisig, Theta, and Kappa. You being AMAB will automatically have people perceive you by your gender assigned at birth. A lot of sororities have rules that allow people who “identify as women” to join their sorority, but a lot of the time, the chapter decides how that rule is applied. Some sororities will out right not give you the chance which i know sounds awful. Although these are female sororities, at least in the South that means female exclusively. Please consider joining a service sorority. I know omega phi alpha is a great organization that is gender inclusive. If you do go through recruitment, good luck and i hope you stay safe. I know this all sounds scary and intimidating, but I honestly just want to be transparent with you because although you will be treated kindly, you wont be respected because girls will put a facade up. Really I hope you find a place that welcomes you with open arms :)
