Even before this virtual and video stuff, sororities generally knew who they "wanted" based on resumes, recs, knowing somebody, etc. It was simply due to time and not being able to rank 1800 girls before lists were due to Panhellenic. Now don't get discouraged cause you could come in from out of state or out of nowhere at some houses not knowing a single solitary soul and really impress them and they could decide to invite you back. But to reinforce what's said above. PNMs really never get to "release" a house unless you have more invites than party slots and in that situation, the computer tries to pair you with your top choices but if AAA was your top and you're on their bottom, you are probably not going to get it. There are girls that even with pref will not have two parties, don't get to cut a sorority, and they still end up happy with the one they get. In the end, it only takes one. I really can't say enough about being open-minded and looking at where you fit, not what strangers online think is a top or bottom house.
