It does depend on who you are. And if who you are is a PNM getting ready to rush at Auburn, you need recs. I'm out of school now, but deal with lots of PNMs in my work. Some are legacies, some have tons of friends in sororities and some are total packages as far as grades, activities, looks, etc goes. None of them would even think of trying it at Auburn, or anywhere in the SEC, without recs. Most PNMs will have them, and it's just too competitive to try to go against the grain. Just start checking with every lady you know who went to college. See if she has a Greek affiliation. Teachers, bosses, neighbors, friends or co-workers of your parents , anyone you babysat for or went to church with, the mothers of your friends, your old scout leader --ANY women who went to a four year school is a good one to ask. But you need to get moving. Alumnae are getting slammed with requests for recs right now. Good luck!
