Suiciding refers to a PNM attending two Preferential Round parties but only ranking one house, meaning that she will only accept a bid to that one house or none at all. The actual term is Single Intentional Preference, or SIP. SIP is not a good idea on several levels: it does not influence how high a PNM is placed on that house's bid list, it eliminates a PNM's chance for a bid at that house as a Quota Addition, and shuts out the PNM from giving that second house a chance where she's really wanted. PNM's who SIP run the distinct risk of being without a bid at all. A PNM who ranks both houses has a better chance of getting her first choice house, and if she gets her second choice she should give it a chance because often she ends up very happy there after all. Don't Suicide. And a PNM who is invited to only one Pref and attends and puts that house on her card will get a bid to that house; that is not Suiciding. Hope this helps.
