Subject:
pinning ceremony for girls/lavalier ceremony?

Poster Message:
Hi this is a serious question for the greek life community. A pinning ceremony for girls is where the girl's boyfriend pins the girl with his pledge pin signifying that she is more important to him than his fraternity. Usually some type of ceremony with the girl's sorority follows the pinning. Also, there is another tradition where a fraternity guy gives his girlfriend a lavalier (a pendant necklace with the guy's letters). The girl does not need to be a dream girl to wear these letters from what I understand. My question is: Has anybody in UCI greek life witnessed something like this? Do these traditions happen here? Are these traditions reserved for sorority girls or can they be applied to a fraternity guy's GF who is not associated with greek life? I know this happens at some other schools on the east coast/ in the south but I've asked around my chapter and no one really knew about it.
