Does anyone agree with me that ranks do matter, but not to the extent that everyone makes it out to be? I think ranks do matter in that it brings out competition which can be positive (like sports, philanthropy, events). For example, because a sorority wants to be competitive in the ranks, they work hard on their philanthropy not only because it's for a good cause but because in order to be top or middle, you have to do a good job on it. Its a nice extra incentive. But when people are close minded towards other Greeks solely based on their affiliation, I don't get it. If you like someone or want to be their friend why does it matter? Its almost like racism, but with letters (letterism).
