To the original writer, I know that you are going to be just as ignorant toward this post as you claim that us Greeks are in all aspects of our unsuccessful Starbucks-bound lives, but just hear me out. I don't think that any member of the any of the many Panhellenic or IFC social fraternities/sororities on this campus will tell you, if asked, that they joined their organization because of its amazing assets and opportunities for the future. Recommendations, study files, connections, and invaluable advice from those older than us are all great, but they are not why we joined. I (and I think many/most others) joined because our four years are the last four years that we get, to experience being young and having crazy fun before entering the real world. Most of us are here, just like you, to study hard and earn a degree for a successful future. (I'm preparing for medical school with a 3.7 GPA). We just want to have some awesome times and make some amazing friends/brothers/sisters in the process, that we will be able to look back on with fondness and remember how great college was. If this is not how you choose to enjoy your time here, that's fine. If we come off superficial or shallow sometimes, I'm sorry if that bothers you. But don't feel entitled to bash on organizations that have been part of the American college experience since the 1800's, especially since I don't think that you know as much about us as you think you do.
