Subject:
advice to pnms (and pnm moms)

Poster Message:
Hi PNMs! Last year some upset moms came onto this board without a lot of understanding how recruitment works. Some kind advice: 1) Many are bewildered and disappointed when Round 2 party invites come back. Bright, talented women with great resumes and grades will see their lists and be shocked and hurt. (I was one of them!) I really want to encourage PNMs to realize that nearly every single PNM at UF is a bright, involved, smart woman, and that every chapter would be lucky to have them, but chapters are not allowed to offer invitations to everyone. This doesn't mean they are "just cutting on looks" or "are superficial." Just like a PNM can go to a chapter and "not feel a fit" even though the members may have loved her, that street runs both ways. Being invited back to only one or two chapters is still a very serious honor. 2) People will say "the cuts were extra harsh this year" or "too many girls rushed for too few spots." This is 100% false. The formula that Panhellenic uses to tell each chapter how many women to invite/release is adjusted up based on the number of women going through recruitment. There is no hard cap on the size of pledge classes. Most women who truly give each and every chapter a shot will find a home, and this year, Gamma Phi Beta will offer an different pathway for many women to Go Greek, too! 3) Active sisters want to make the experience as positive as possible for PNMs! Give every chapter a shot, they've worked hard to prepare for you!
