Hi! You're smart to look for advice (though Greekchat.com might give you a better idea overall - this site is pretty catty) before going through recruitment. At Florida, there's fall formal recruitment where ALL sororities participate and take a large pledge class, and then there's spring informal recruitment where some sororities take a small class of members. During formal recruitment, you register and go through a week of "parties" where you rotate through the sororities and meet members in a structured process. There are rounds of parties and after each round, houses extend invitations to the women they'd like to invite back to the next round, and the women rank the houses in preference order. Each round, women can go to fewer parties and each house can invite fewer women, so it winds up narrowing everyone down. If you "maximize your options," meaning you attend as many parties as you are allowed (even if you aren't in love with all of the houses), all the way through the end of recruitment, it is very likely you will get a bid to a sorority, though it may not be your "top house." The houses each judge potential members on different criteria, but grades, resume, and how you present yourself (are you friendly and polished, etc.) are usual factors. Though each house has it's own personality and unique traditions, every sorority has something to offer and being a member of any of UF's sororities offers a wonderful experience of sisterhood, tradition and involvement.
