Joanie, as an active Alumna Member of the UF sorority ranked #1 for many decades - from founding until recently - I am appalled by the girls who posted heinous, spurious comments in reply to your question. Shame on you girls! Your actions reflect everything we Alumnae want PURGED from National Panhellenic. I am so very sorry that Rush did not follow your expectations. :-( Regarding Legacies, I have strong feelings and much personal experience. I was always 100% Pro-Legacy with regard to them receiving an automatic bid. When I had my two daughters (right after college), I was filled with excitement at the thought of sharing the bonds of sisterhood with my precious girls & pinning their badges on each one personally. #Joy #Tears #OnceInALifetimeMemories. However, as time went on, my opinion was radically changed. First, my beloved chapter at UF was suddenly no longer #1 & the culprit was the flood of legacies who came in the post-Millenial years and choked out the wonderful recruits chosen on their own merits and best fit with the group rather than maternal birthright. My sisters and I - and especially my daughters who were nearing high school & dreaming of college - watched our beloved institution slip to #2, #3, then #4. I think it stopped at mid-tier, but by then it made us ill to watch. Something had to be done, & the solution was that Legacies lost their privileges & now all are equal. Sadly, balance wasn't achieved in time for my older daughter, who pledged the current top sorority - one that was quite below mine until the "slip" & I took it hard. But she's happy, the girls are amazing & now the "Legacy Fix" has improved things so my younger daughter can't wait to pledge my sorority & wear my old jersey. Lesson: it all works out for the best. ♡♡♡ 2U
