i think it’s fair to acknowledge that the vast majority of pnm’s will end up in a bottom or mid house, because it’s statistically true. there’s only 3-4 “top” houses, in comparison to 15 mid and bottom houses, and a majority of the girls chosen by the top houses have connections to active members or legacies. if you were lucky enough to be offered a bid to one of those houses just based off of your looks and personality, that’s great. but it’s unfair to pretend that those houses are realistic or attainable for the average pnm. if you’re the typical pnm without these advantages, then yes- getting into one of those houses is pretty unlikely. i would rather have gone into recruitment knowing that and not being disappointed when i was dropped immediately by the “highly desired” houses. it’s not a mystery that the concept of a tier system exists- my point is that i would’ve rather gone through recruitment without knowing anything about it, because for the pnm’s that will inevitably end up in a “less desirable” house, it’s hard to feel excited about a new sisterhood that you’ve only ever read negative things about.
