tiers exist because people dwell on them and it makes them feel powerful like you said. tiers also exist because people don't realize they mean absolutely nothing and the MOMENT you alum no one cares that you were in a top house. tiers also exist because some chapters are obsessed with rankings and constantly trying to one up each other rather than trying to improve their sisterhood, panhellenic connections, involvement, connections with other organizations, make their house the best it can possibly be or maybe just trying to be good people, and instead are hung up on something so superficial.
