I remember thinking the same thing about joining a sorority and how overwhelming it seems. I don't it is wise to pass up on the opportunity because I think you would be surprised at how much more a sorority can offer you. For example networking connections, academic support, and a place to call home away from home are just to name a few. The minimum requirement is going to chapter meetings on either a Sunday or Monday (depending on which sorority) and a few required events (such as philanthropy events). Although that is the minimum commitment, you can get so much more out of it the more you are involved. Going through recruitment is the best way to find out all the information you want about each house. Each chapter is different and so the answer to your question depends on what you would like out of a sorority. The best way is just to go through recruitment, ask lots of questions, be yourself, and choose the chapter that you can see yourself most comfortable in. If you decide Greek life is not for you, you can easily drop out of the process.
